Rock climbing

Matthew went rock wall climbing for the 1st time last night. He took a clinic at the Rec Center. He said it wasn't too hard and he doesn't think he'll be sore from it. He said it was a little scary when he got to 50 feet but he got used to it and he's looking forward to doing it again. I'm impressed! I don't think I could do that and I'm proud of him for trying something new!

Love that girl!

How cute! Shan just called and told me she was wearing the Old Navy shorts we just bought last night. She's only worn denim shorts and this is the first time for her to wear just plain cotton shorts. We bought them just for hanging out at the dorm shorts. She said they make her butt look great! They make it look lifted and tight and grrrrrrr! She really likes them, and I like hearing her get excited over a great pair of shorts!

1st digital layout!

This could be cool! Here's my first digital LO using PSE 6. I went through a tutorial and it was very helpful. I see a big, bright future ahead for digiscrapping!

Shannon & I share a day

Shannon needed to go to San Antonio to interview a prospective coach. Of course, I couldn't let her go by herself even though she will be going by herself in 5 weeks. I made her drive so hopefully, she will start noticing landmarks and stuff when she moves to San Antonio. (It didn't work - the next day she & Chris went for another interview and they missed the exit) I read some Zen Golf to her on the way down - she was thrilled. She was nervous and I reassured her she had nothing to be nervous about - it was the coach that would be nervous. Then she asked me "what if they don't like me?" Sigh. My precious baby girl - everyone likes you! They can't help it when you're so sweet. Maybe someday she'll figure that out. She went into the restaurant and I went shopping at the La Cantera shops. It's a very nice mall but of course, I got all turned around and walked an extra mile in shoes that weren't very comfortable (our white slides). For my lunch I tried a chicken sub from Grilled Subs but it smelled funny so I threw it away after 2 bites and got a Chick-Fil-A. They gave me fried when I requested grilled so I had to take the 1st one back. It took me a while to get settled and eat but I finally accomplished it. I remembered I had a Nordstrom's gift card so I headed over there. I found a cute pink shirt and was just about to buy it when Shan called and said she was done. She was excited about the coach they interviewed. She was an assistant from A&M and Shan liked that she was married w/ 2 kids (she was really worried about having a gay coach). She also liked that Wendy wanted them to work with a real sports psychologist. I took her to show her the t-shirts she buys at Nordstrom's were on sale for $10 and she ended up buying 4 other shirts and some shorts. Maybe I'll have to add her on to my Nordstrom's account. When we were done, we went outside to find the truck and it was really dark and the wind was blowing hard! We were clutching our bags. Right after we got in the truck, it started pouring. Glad we didn't wait 5 minutes!

Shannon's orientation

Shannon & I attended her UTSA orientation for 3 days. It was interesting but mostly boring. That's what Shannon's overall comment was - Boring! I stayed in the new Laurel Village with no roommate and Shannon stayed in Chaparral with 3 roommates that never spoke to her. The lectures mostly focused on alerting us to the dangers of college life. Shannon came away nervous about being able to study enough to pass. We've been reassuring her that she can do it with all the help that will be given to her as an athlete. It was really cool to see how she fit in so easily with the athletes when they called the athletes out of the general orientation group. There were volleyball players, track, basketball and golf and it was so different to see how Shannon was definitely an athlete. I've always known she was an athlete but it was so dramatically displayed when she left the orientation with normal people and joined the athletes for their physicals.
It was also fun having the athletic staff take care of her registration and make it so easy for us. We discovered she will probably get tired of cafeteria food pretty quickly, it costs $1.50 per load of laundry, she knows the buildings where all of her classes are, she's got a great schedule as a freshman, she needs to carry sunglasses, there are about 20 wild cats around campus, and lots of other vital stuff. I think she's a little better prepared but it will still be hard for all of us come Aug. 20.

Shan's graduation

Shannon made it successfully across the stage. I tried to get pictures but my camera didn't work well. It looked like there were several professional photographers there so hopefully, we'll get a decent photo. There were several people there for Shannon's graduation: Granny & Paw-paw re-scheduled their trip to New Mexico so they could be there, Chris and Angie, Brianna and Janice, Angeles, Dane and Coach and Delayna all joined us at Cracker Barrel. It's always challenging after graduation to get our group together and take pictures. Right when we find everyone, it started raining so we all evacuated to our cars. Angeles had to leave Cracker Barrell early and she had rode with Dane so she took his truck and we took Dane back to Angeles' little bitty car. It was comical seeing him try to get in. He couldn't find the latch to get the seat to move back but Chris saved the day and figured it out. We are all very proud of Shannon for her accomplishments.

Shannon is cleaning!

Wow! Now this is something! Shannon bought a new shower curtain, liner and hooks today and I just called to check on her. She said she hadn't hung it up, yet, because she's busy cleaning! How exciting! I should send her to buy new shower curtains more often.
